Data Recovery By Mail is
frequently
asked
questions about common situations. Here are some examples that may
help answer your inquiry.
- Q: Should I try to recover my own data first?
- A: We don't recommend it. A lot of damage can be done if any improper steps are taken or the drive is not handled properly. Every moment the drive
is running could be losing your valuable data. Let a technician handle the recovery so you can be sure to have a better chance at recovering your data.
- Q: How can I keep my data backed up?
- A: Check out Alexander's write-up on keeping your data safe.
- Q: I hear clicking, buzzing or other weird noises and my drive doesn't work. Does that mean my data is gone?
- A: Not necessarily. Usually these are indications that there is a physical defect. Usually we are able to work around the problem unless the drive
is very damaged.
- Q: My system boots to a screen that says "Drive Not Found" or "Disk Not Found", does that mean my hard drive is broken?
- A: Your hard drive may be experiencing a problem with its onboard controller or failing the self test, so it is not recognized. It is also possible there's a loose
cable or your computer's motherboard.
Check if your system has internal diagnostics and run them if you can. Also, make sure all the cables are secure and that other devices are being detected (such as the DVD-ROM, CD-ROM or another drive).
If the cables are secure and/or the diagnostics show a drive error, then the drive may be failing and you'll need data recovery service.
- Q: Do you recover data from Apple (Mac) computers and laptops?
- A: Yes, we support all Apple hard drives.
